Northwest Forest Frenzy

Juniors from the Pacific Northwest and throughout North America are organizing a USOF Class A orienteering meet in August. This will be the first Class A meet to be organized entirely by juniors. WIOL Training Camp

Improve your O' skills at the WIOL Youth Orienteer Training Camp, to be held October 20-21 at historic Camp Casey on Whidbey Island. Learn the basics or enhance what you already know, and meet new friends in a scenic setting. 14 WIOL juniors competed in the 2007 US Interscholastic Championship the weekend of March 31-April 1st. They won two individual championships and three team titles, among other accomplishments. More...

The team from Lakeside School won the Varsity team title. Team members Catherine Olsson, Tori Borish and Holly Kuestner (who won the Varsity Girls individual champhionship) hold their trophy at the award ceremony. The Woodinville Montessori team with their Middle School championship trophy: Dana Breseman, Rachel Ellis, Jorden Lindquist, and Gabrielle Lindquist (winner of the Middle School Girls individual champhionship).


WIOL alum Eric Bone contributed an article on map and compass skills to the October, 2007, issue Popular Mechanics story "25 Skills Every Man Should Know".

During the summer of 2006, several WIOL participants orienteered in Europe.
Catherine Olsson reports from the 2006 Swedish O-Ringen, one of the largest O' meets in the world.
Tori Borish writes about orienteering in Austria and Switzerland.

Over a dozen WIOL juniors staffed a Cascade OC meet at Hyak Lake, near Snoqualmie Pass, in October (and did it rain!). The event was on a new map and raised funds for the WIOL Travel Fund. More details, including photos, are here.

Visit The WaterStop, an on-line gathering place for orienteering juniors to talk about - what else? - orienteering. Topics include training ideas, "anyone going to the such-and-so meet?", reports from recent meets and "are you going to try to qualify for JWOC?" (JWOC is the Junior World Orienteering Championship - several former WIOL participants have competed in past JWOCs)

Want more training opportunities? Want to improve your skills? It's easy: take part in more O' meets! Local clubs host events through out the year, not just during the WIOL season, and many WIOL participants go to them.

WIOL events are hosted by Cascade Orienteering Club.
