An earsplitting alarm awakened some of the early-to-bed orienteers at the Comfort Inn, many turning out in the parking lot in pajamas. The alarm lasted for just a few minutes, after which the intrepid orienteers showed their competition-honed nerves of steel by taking it in stride and trundling off to bed once again.
The alarm was apparently set off by the smoke of a candle in the hotel office, and this was quickly discovered by hotel staff and promptly investigated by the fire department.
