Wet IS Day 1

February 16, 2008

The forest was wet after last night's thunderstorm, and got wetter (if that was even possible) as it rained intermittently throughout the day. However, given the weather at most WIOL meets this season, a little bit of rain did not intimidate the WIOL participants at today's meet.

Nearly everyone had good runs today, expecially Huw and Holly. Well, both claim to have made errors, but Holly's time of 44:37 minutes (on a 5.1 Km course) can't include too many errors. Claudia Guenther was second (51:33), followed by Catherine Olsson (54:29). Anna Urbanova was fifth at 63:03 with Tori Borish close behind at 64:19.

Huw ended the day in fourth, 9:16 out of first at 45:41. Ethan Barnes was eleventh with 57:34.

Among the JV Girls, Gabrielle Lindquist totally blew away the rest of the field with a time of 52:18 - second place was 78:09! Out of 24 finishers, all of the WIOL girls were in the top 8.

Max Maxwell took fourth place among JV Boys, 50:37, ten and a half minutes out of first.

The weather excitment continues - a tornado watch has been issued for the local county, effective until 6 PM CST tonight. Now, that's an experience we don't get back home.
