This afternoon's Sprint course gave the 30 WIOL participants a sample of the forest we will be running this weekend. Claudia, of course, found the scratchiest parts of the woods.

Tracy Whelen and Bonnie Gilbrey look for four leave clovers before the sprint. They found several (Bonnie has one in her hair) and they must have worked.

Holly Kuestner won the Sprint A course Varsity Girls competition with a time that also beat all but five of the Varsity Boys on the same course. WIOL girls took five of the top six places; no WIOL girls finished lower than sixth. Huw Stradling won the Varsity Boys competition, with Lance Miller only 91 seconds behind in fifth place.

Gabrielle Lindquist and Tracy Whelen took the first two places for JV Girls. The JV boys did not fare as well, with Matt Skorina finishing 19th in a field of 41.

The results were a bit brighter for middle school participants. EAS students Bonnie Gilbrey, Anne Wilkinson, and Danielle Spenceri swept the top three places in the girls' race, followed closely by Dana Breseman. Among the boys, Jorden Lindquist placed first with Andrew Spencer fourth.

The meet is being held at a Boy Scout ranch, and such facilities have lakes, usually for such fun activities as early morning swim lessons. Today, the lake near the ranch's entrance attracted, in turn, the WIOL kids and then others from Delaware Valley Orienteering Association (Philadelphia) and the team from Apollo HS (Kentucky). Yes, many of the kids ended up in the water, most of them by choice...

After running in humid weather, many from WIOL found the lake to be refreshing - and wet.

Team WIOL (plus friends) dining at the Athens Cafe Friday evening.
After cleaning up, we gathered at the Athens Cafe for dinner: "Hi, we'd like a table for 60, please" "Okaay..." The food was great and the service was excellent

After dinner we watched an O' video by Mike Sandstrom and then one from the 2006 World Orienteering Championship in Denmark.
