Cascade Orienteering Club
Youth Orienteer Training Camp
Fort Casey, Whidbey Island
October 20 & 21
Cascade Orienteering Club, with support from United States Orienteering Federation (USOF), will be presenting a Youth Orienteer Training Camp at Fort Casey State Park, Whidbey Island, Saturday and Sunday October 20 and 21, 2007.
The camp is open first to youth orienteers, grades 6 – 12, that will be participating in the 2007/2008 Washington Interscholastic Orienteering League (WIOL) season. If WIOL participant enrollment does not fill the registration openings available the camp will be made available to non-WIOL participants. The camp has 40 registration openings.
The purpose of the camp is to provide training for WIOL participants that will help them complete their WIOL courses at a higher level than they would without the training. Participants who will be participating in WIOL as a team member will be encouraged to share the knowledge they gain with the other members of their team.
The camp will start with the Cascade orienteering meet scheduled at Fort Casey State Park on Saturday and end Sunday afternoon. Participants and staff will be staying in quarters at Camp Casey Conference Center adjacent to Fort Casey State Park. Lodging and food will be provided. Participants will need to provide their own transportation to and from the camp. Participants will need to bring the following items: Bedding (sheets/blanket or sleeping bag), pillow, bath towels & washcloth, personal clothing, personal toiletries, flashlight, notebook and optional items: alarm clock, camera, bottled water.
Participants will need to report to the Camp Director not later than 9:30 am, Saturday October 20th at the Cascade meet registration area.
The fee per individual is $25. The USOF Junior Development Committee has provided a grant to cover much of the training camp cost.
All registration/waivers must be received not later than October 12, 2007 by the Camp Director, Rick Breseman, at the address indicated on the registration/waiver form. Mr. Breseman and several of the staff have been certified by USOF as orienteering instructors.
