Resources For Event Organizers
Meet Director
Several clubs have published various guides to organizing O' meets.
Among them:
Course Design
Course Designers are expected to adhere to the
2008-09 Course Design Guide.
The 2006-07 Course Design Guide is also available
(52KB PDF).
Long, long ago, Mike Schuh wrote a couple of articles on course design that were published
in Bearing 315, the Cascade OC newsletter
(part 1
part 2).
A third part was contemplated, but never written...
(something Mike can add to his "to-do" list).
Mike's articles were written before the advent of electronic punching
and such wonders as OCAD and CONDES.
There are also the
USOF Course Design Guidelines.
There are many other useful documents in the
USOF "Virtual Binder".
Ben Hall (Cascade OC) has written an e-punch operator's manual, available at
http://www.nwlink.com/~ben/odocs/.
The Canadian Orienteering Federation also has a
SportIdent guide for organizers (Cascade OC practice differs from
the Canadian procedures).
Here is a
suggested layout
for the start area at WIOL meets.
