Proposal to change team scoring rules for the US Interscholastic Orienteering Championship
Members of Cascade OC, concerned about the inequities in the rules for scoring teams at the US Interscholastic Championships,
have proposed that they be changed.
We sent our proposal to the USOF Rules Committee on
Friday, November 3rd
and it was presented to the USOF Board late Thursday evening, November 9th.
Our submitted request included the following items:
- cover letter (
WORD document
HTML
plain ASCII text)
- analysis of weaknesses in the current system and how last Spring's
results would have been affected by our proposed scoring system (
Excel spreadsheet)
[Viewing the spreadsheet with older versions of Excel doesn't work very well.
Microsoft provides a
viewer
for those who don't have newer versions.
From a browser select "save as..." and then use the viewer to open the spreadsheet.]
- the current rules marked up with our proposed changes (

HTML)
Clare Durand, USOF VP Competition,
has written an analysis of our proposal,
and it was posted in the USOF "Virtual Binder" at
http://home.comcast.net/~rshannonhouse/PNWpropIS.html
(dead link)
on Friday, January 5th, 2007.
A local copy of it is available
here.
The current rules are included in the USOF "Virtual Binder" at
http://home.comcast.net/~rshannonhouse/ISrules06.html.
Here on the WIOL web site we also have a
copy.
Individuals who have expressed their support for our proposal are listed on a
separate page.
Anyone who wishes to be added to this list please contact Mike Schuh.
Alternatively, share your opinion with your Regional Representative
or by posting to the USOF clubnet
(see
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/USOFclubnet/).
Mike Schuh's February 14th proposal (a variation on the one described here that replaces co-ed teams with single sex teams) is
here.
A supporting spreadsheet, mentioned in the proposal, is
here.
Thank you very much.
